Welcome to Home-Start Worthing & Adur

Adur’s Most Volunteer Friendly Organisation in 2007Home-Start Worthing & Adur is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the wellbeing of families with at least one child under 5 years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families who may be struggling to cope with a variety of challenges, including post-natal depression, disability, isolation, the demands of parenting young chidren and multiple births. Supporting families through these difficulties can prevent them from escalating into crises, and crises from developing into family breakdown.

The charity was set up in June 2001 and started its operations in September 2001. In 2006/07 we had 4 part-time staff that supported 60 volunteers, who in turn supported 115 families with 220 children through our home-visiting and family group work.

Our scheme is managed by a number of Trustees, made up of local people who are keen to see families effectively supported. They come from a variety of backgrounds, both professional and non-professional and use their range of skills to lead in the vision and planning for the scheme. All our committee members are volunteers.

We support the 5 key incomes for children and young people outlined in 'Every Child Matters: Change for Children' – be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being. We work in partnership with the West Sussex Children’s Trust and have contributed into the West Sussex Children and Young People’s Plan, and both Worthing Borough Council and Adur District Council Community Strategy Plans.
