What is a Home-Start Family Group?

Some families who feel isolated at home, prefer group support and enjoy the chance to meet and make new friends with other parents who live nearby.  Home-Start Family Groups provide a regular meeting place for families with at least one child under 5.

Family Groups are held once a week and last for 2 hours.  They are informal, friendly and welcoming. The group is led by a qualified and experienced Home-Start Organiser with support from a playworker and trained volunteers. As well as a time for parents to sit and relax with friends, various speakers come to talk to the group about issues such as: healthy eating, oral hygiene, the importance of play, first aid, safety in the home and debt management. Our playworker organizes craft activities and free play for the children with a healthy snack mid morning. Coffee, tea and drinks are provided for everyone.  Everything is free.

Parents tell us that they enjoy the chance to relax and make new friends, share ideas and experiences and gain self-confidence in their parenting skills.
